SUNDAY, DECEMBER, 1, 2013 — As the world mourns the loss of actor Paul Walker, new details are emerging about the fiery crash that took his life yesterday.
The driver of the car that crashed into a tree and went up in flames has been identified as former race car driver Roger Rodas, 38.
It’s been reported by The Boston Globe and other news outlets that the two had been friends for a long time and that Mr. Rodas was helping Paul build his charity organization, Reach Out Worldwide.
The two of them were at an event for Paul’s organization, which was held at Always Evolving, a car customization shop. Rodas was reportedly CEO.
It is being reported that the two took a ride in a Porsche GT and were near the location of the event when it crashed. People at the event, and nearby buildings, reportedly ran to the crash site to try to put out the flames with fire extinguishers.
Sadly, nothing could be done, said eye witnesses. The car had exploded and was engulfed. L.A. County firefighters arrived and extinguished the flames.
An autopsy is expected in the next couple of days. Funeral arrangements have not been announced yet.
Paul Walker was in the midst of shooting Fast and Furious 7. Universal Studios, which is also the studio producing Fifty Shades of Grey, released this statement:
“All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the ‘Fast and Furious’ films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul’s family.”
Paul Walker leaves behind a 16 year old daughter, Meadow Walker, who had apparently moved to Los Angels recently to be closer to her father. Please keep her in your prayers.
