Former Priest Offers Compassionate Insight Into Christian Grey’s Tortured Soul

christian-grey official still

Finally, some compassion and interesting insight into Christians Grey’s wounded soul from Robert Hoatson, PhD. a counselor who used to be a priest and was abused as a boy.

People forget (or do not know yet) that the worst part of Christian’s behavior comes from his own horrible childhood abuse and abandonment. When you know the full character arc–as readers of all three books do–you can understand his flaws in a different light.

“The movie I saw on opening night in a packed New York City theater was not about sex, despite what you might read about Fifty Shades of Grey,” writes Hoatson, in an Op Ed piece in the New Jersey Star-Ledger. “These fifty shades of Christian Grey were shadows hovering over a young man who seemingly had never received any counseling, psychotherapy or sympathy for the sexual violation of his innocence as a boy.”

As an adult, Christian has a therapist — calling Dr. Flynn!–but there was no intervention when he was abused as a teen. Also, he remains close to his abuser, “Mrs. Robinson,” until that bond is broken, so there is a lot of material for a psychologist or therapist to think of.

“The movie was about the “break” in his psyche, which led him to fear intimacy, vulnerability, passion, and friendship,” continued Hoatson. “Christian Grey needed an intervention by a compassionate advocate to help him understand how his life had ironically cycled out of control despite his efforts to control everything and everyone.”

Kudos to Dr. Robert Hoatson for the insights. Read thew full story at the link below.

Jamie Dornan Will Be Christian Grey, Forever

Rumors ran rampant for two days. Fans were distraught. You can calm down now. Jamie Dornan’s rep confirms he will happily be in the other Fifty Shades of Grey movies.

“Jamie is delighted that the film is breaking box office records worldwide and whilst the studio has not made any formal announcements about sequels, he is looking forward to making the next film,” his rep told Us Weekly.

The first movie has already earned over $400 million. Long term, this could be quite a successful franchise.

Stories circulated that Jamie was ditching the Grey role because of:
1) His wife’s disapproval
2) He doesn’t dig Dakota
3) He does want to be associated with dark materials (ha!)

But it ain’t true.

Jamie Dornan remains your Mr. Christian Grey. Are you happy?

Dakota Johnson and Melanie Griffith’s Mom-Daughter Moment on TV

Dakota has been doing all the press for FSOG alone, and now it is clear why that was a good idea. She seems stronger and more confident when not with her mother.

She was introduced as Melanie Griffith’s “Little Girl” last night at the Oscars by Lara Spencer, the official ABC interviewer, and it set the tone for an uncomfortable mother/daughter exchange. Ugh. See the video above while it is still available.

Things got tricky when the interviewer pushed Melanie on whether she would see the film to confirm Dakota is a good actress.

“I don’t need to see that to know how good she is,” Melanie declared.

“All right! You don’t have to see it!” Dakota said, seeming agitated.

I think it is just to hard to take you famous mom — who has essentially been banned from partaking in your exciting journey of fame — to public events.

Melanie has obviously been a very loving and adoring mother. No doubt she is so proud of her daughter. But there has to be some living in mom’s shadow stuff, and the aging mother having to pass the baton but still showing her control over the daughter.

Not sure why Fifty Shades is such an anomaly in that family. If you look back on Melanie’s career, she was a sex symbol, nude a lot, of half dressed and almost always in her underwear and bra, plus she did Playboy showing all. So that’s Dakota’s model. I am thinking she didn’t want her mother to see they movie because she doesn’t want to be in a competition.

Dakota has often remarked that maybe her siblings would see her film.

There are issues in the family. Melanie is going through a divorce to Antonia Bandares, with whom she has a daughter Stella (Dakota’s sister). Plus there is a huge blended–and split– family. They are “Hollywood royalty,” but Melanie has three children with different mates, and Dakota has a brother who is the son of her Dad Don Johnson, and two or three additional sibs from Don’s most recent marriage. But still Melanie has always seemed the loving mom to all her kids and Don Johnson’s eldest, Jesse.

They probably should have prepared their responses and not made it family therapy on live TV. But clearly Melanie has always dominated and led when in these situations with Dakota — Dakota was a little girl tagging along for many years –and the dynamic has not changed.

What do you think? Should Dakota not take her mom along as a sidekick on interviews? Should they get some help ironing out their challenges?

Or has media just blown this out of proportion?

Movie Photos of Dakota’s Sexy Mama, Melanie Griffith

Just a reminder… both of Dakota Johnson’s parents were sex symbols and stars. Her mom was often in her underwear, and was topless in movies such as Something Wild and, also, bottomless in Night Moves. Melanie posed for Playboy, and did not seem shy.

I’d say Dakota comes into her body confidence quite naturally.

Here are some photos of her sexy Mom in her heyday.

Read My Interview With A Real ‘Christian Grey’ on ‘The Stir’

I located a real dominant and asked him to, um, enlighten me. It was an assignment for The Stir.

Spoke with him about the life of a dominant and his thoughts on Fifty Shades of Grey.

Here’s one of the many questions I posed to him:

There have been some complaints from the BDSM world that Christian Grey misrepresents the true role of a dominant. What are your thoughts?

I don’t think he misrepresented being a dominant. It’s just that most dominants are more passionate about their dominance and would not settle for a partner who seemed as tentative about submitting, especially in a city like Seattle where eager submissives abound. For someone who claims his “tastes are very singular,” he certainly sells himself short — and that’s a rare trait for a dominant.

Or maybe it’s just fun!

Tae is Irish for Tea.
