Sam Taylor-Johnson has been hinted that it was somewhat torturous to direct and edit the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaption. Now we know she will not be back in The Red Room any time soon.
It’s official according to multiple media reports: She is not coming back to direct the sequels.
Amidst rumors and direct declarations of tension on the set between the director and Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James, Sam Taylor-Johnson announced last night that she will not be returning to the franchise to direct Fifty Shades Darker or Fifty Shades Freed.
In a reportedly exclusive statement to Deadline, Taylor-Johnson said: “Directing Fifty Shades Of Grey has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that. I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie. While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three.”
The film has raked in $558.6 million worldwide.
The movie’s screenwriter Kelly Marcel is also not expected back and rumor is that E.L. James wants to write the script herself.
So what are your thoughts on Sam Taylor-Johson leaving the Fifty Shades franchise?
